In February, Anna Dorfman of Door Sixteen tweeted:
"It's very disappointing how much emphasis is put on 'curating' content rather than creating it. What incentive do creators have when those who repost/reblog their work are the ones who are rewarded monetarily? It's scary."
Anna has written a lot about curating versus creating, and the use of public inspiration boards, and she's far more eloquent than I am. Her thinking has influenced me, and in February I wrote about closing my Pinterest account - which I still haven't. Sigh. I've made a plan for how I'll use it (only post my own pics, basically), but I still haven't taken the steps, my pins just lie there like a beached whale.
Except for screen shots from movies, I rarely repost other people's work. Today I've decided to make an exception, but I hope my celebration of the work of record label Domestica, and how designer Serge Shi has used lettering is respectful, because I find them both so inspiring. Both are clearly influenced by Art Deco and Constructivism, styles I appreciate!

O! Love the last one (no surprise?) Not so much the first. Feels to layerd. To computer-made, to millenium to me. But I'm in LOVE with the font/pattern!

Yes, the Domestica sleeve didn't hold up so well next to Shi's lettering. I like the line art of the Domestica sleeve more than the Photoshop:ing. And I like their DO logo! And what they do as a company!

Serge Shi is genious letter pattern boy!
